Stroller-friendly walk at St-Luc

Educational walk open all the year round and ideal for families.

While your other half is enjoying their day’s skiing, here’s a lovely walk that you can do with a stroller. After travelling on the funicular railway from the village of St-Luc, you reach the Hôtel Weisshorn after about 2 hours’ walking.

The Chemin des Planètes reproduces the solar system on a smaller scale, with each step you move forward a million kilometres. A description of the walk can be obtained from the tourist office at St-Luc. You can also visit the François-Xavier Bagnoud observatory for solar observation sessions or astronomy evenings, dates of these are given on the observatory’s website www.ofxb.ch

The Hôtel Weisshorn dates from 1882 and stands high above the Val d’Anniviers at 2,337m. You can sit on the terrace with its amazing views, enjoying light refreshments and relaxing in a place that’s steeped in history. Don’t leave without trying their famous tarte aux myrtilles (blueberry tart).

You return along the same route, and will need to allow around 1½ hours. This makes the full walk about 3½ – 4 hours long, but you can turn round at any time if you want to make the walk shorter.
